Reasons why Accidents Happen at Construction Sites

Based on a current report by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) about 4000 people died. From these numbers, 19.6% of people who lost their lives belonged to the construction industry. Here are a few reasons accidents happen at construction sites if you happen to be working in this industry.

  1. Falling – One small mistake such as losing focus, then the worker can fall down from a height. This is one of the common reasons seen in the construction industry where a worker loses their life. Moreover, without the presence of guardrails, it is easy for the worker to lose their balance and fall down.
  2. Struck – About 78 construction workers lost their lives in the year 2012 when they were struck by large objects. This can be avoided with the help of offering proper training to the workers.
  3. Electrocution – Again in the same year of 2012, about 66 workers lost their lives due to getting electrocuted. The absence of power lines was the main problem behind the death of the workers. This problem can be avoided by placing signs for the presence of electric wires at the worksite.
  4. Machine – You must be aware of the fact that the construction site involves the use of heavy machines. If you are someone who operates heavy machines then you need to use the machine you’ve been trained for. Never use a machine you haven’t been trained for while operating.
